THE SIGNIFICANCE OF CHRISTMAS COLOURS

Welcome to Purposeful living today. It is always a great honour to have you visit Fulfill purpose blog. We wish you a Happy Christmas full of love and Joy.

"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son" (1 John 5:11 KJV).

It is the season of Christmas. A season of love and joy. I am so excited about this year's Christmas because I discovered the significance of Christmas colours and the unique message they share. I  will share two of my favorite colours with you. I have come to love Christmas colours because of the significance that each of these Christmas colours represent and the message each reveal about Christmas.  Christmas colours are red, green, blue, pink, gold and white. I am going to discuss two of them; they are red and white.

You may have observed like I have that during Christmas Carol you see most persons dressed in red and white, especially  here in Nigeria. This also intensified my curiosity in researching the significance of red and white in the celebration of Christmas.

The power of Colours:
Colours speaks about the purpose of an event or what something represents. The United States of America flag has white which stands for purity and innocence. Red represents valor and hardiness, while blue signifies justice, perseverance, and vigilance.

The colour of something is the appearance that it has as a result of the way in which it reflects light.

Colours refers to the identity of a person, nation, thing or event. When you see a flag with green white green you can identify it as a Nigerian flag.
This therefore means that the colours Red and white have a special Christmas message for us.

So we begin with the colour Red
Red is a colour that can mean either love or danger(keep off) this is based on the circumstances or the event. I have seen where persons will tie a red cloth on their mango tree to prevent people from plucking the mangoes when they are ripe that is not theirs. Red is a colour of LOVE.
The Christmas colour "red" talks about LOVE just like on Valentine day people also wear red to celebrate Valentine.

"The color red symbolizes the love, integrity, and trust that must prevail in every relationship. When people love unconditionally, there would be nothing else but joy and happiness in the entire world."

What love are we expressing at Christmas?
First of all we must know and understand that the purpose of the celebration of Christmas came on the platform of love. Christmas is a day we celebrate the birth of Jesus who came to save and redeem the world from sin, death and the power of the devil; the beneficiaries of these are those who believe in Jesus and accept Him as their personal Lord and saviour.

Christmas is about Sacrificial and unconditional love. It is not for the expression of selfish or self-centered desires. This is why most people get pregnant out of wedlock during this season because they see it as an avenue to express lasciviousness. The rate of stealing, accident and even death this season is very high because most people want to pretend to be who they are not just because they want to prove a point to their friends and family members that they too are successful. They drive to their village for Christmas when they don't know how to drive. Those that know how to drive, they take alcohol and then drive carelessly above speed limit, all in euphoria of Christmas.

The kind of love that makes a person commits immorality because of Christmas is not the love of God which we celebrate at Christmas.

The love of Christmas talks about sacrificing for people, giving our best to serve and help people. Christmas love looks for those in need to help because this is what Jesus Christ who is the reason for Christmas would have done if He was on earth in His human form. He would go to the orphanage to support and make the children happy. He would help the less privilege by providing for them things they need like food stuffs, clothes, toiletries etc. He would visit the sick in the hospital. He would visit the prisoners in prison. He would put smiles on the faces of people.

This love we celebrate at Christmas is unconditional, it puts others first and is without conditions. God put us first and gave us His only son. Jesus Christ put us first by his suffering and death on the cross for us. God did not tell us to pay for His love for us when He sent His only begotten son Jesus Christ to come and redeem us.  In this season of Christmas don't think of yourself alone, think of how your action will affect the lives of others negatively or positively. Think about how to make positive impact in the lives of those around you.

You know she is not your wife you are having an affair with her and you will not even marry her, you promised to marry her but you know from your heart that you can not marry her. You are being selfish, first by not honouring God and then you are selfish to her. Even if she is a fool without a direction in life don't take advantage of her foolishness except you too are a fool. Only a fool says there is no God, if you believe there is a God then act wise. Love builds people it does not use and abuse people. Love does not take advantage of the emotional vulnerability of a person but seeks to help such persons know who and whose they are.

Drive with care and think of the safety of your life and that of the passengers by not drinking alcohol before embarking on a journey.

Love does not hurt, do don't steal or fraud people this is not the reason for Christmas.

This is a season of love and where there is love there is joy.

"Jesus Christ is spotless, sinless and pure, just like the color white. He brought light in the dark and dying world and died just for the betterment of his people. Those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as their savior are washed off their sin and made whiter and purer than they are."

The colour white represents PEACE and PURITY
Christmas is about Jesus who we are Celebrating because He is the Prince of Peace. Do you need peace in your family? Do you need peace in your life? Know that Jesus is the Prince of Peace and he can give you peace in that storm of your life, family and nation if you invite Him. Christmas speaks of the peace from the Prince of Peace that is not temporary but permanent. It is the peace you receive that make you to live joyful with everyone. There are so many unpleasant situations happening in our world today, let's use this season of Christmas to speak peace and also live a peaceful life with everyone. No fighting, no war, no killing, no stealing...live a peaceful life and be an ambassador of Peace.

The bible says blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God (Matthew 5:8). God is a holy God, He is a God of Purity, He hates sin and does not behold sin with His eyes. Jesus came to make us pure, we can't celebrate Him in impurity, if we celebrate in a life of impurity it is not the Jesus Christ of Christmas we are celebrating.

"Christmas is not a sinful celebration but a celebration of the righteousness of God  which we are privileged to be partakers of in Christ Jesus."

Jesus came to save sinners; sinners are those who do not believe in Jesus and have not accepted Him as their personal lord and saviour. They have not received the free gift of righteousness which makes them to have right standing before God. Your morality or legalism can not save you or forgive your sins, your being very good does not make you righteous. Only the blood of Jesus saves and Jesus is the only way to heaven and the only access to eternal life and a glorious life here on earth.

Christmas colours of red and white speaks of LOVEPURITY and PEACE. Our world will be a better place when we choose to love and live in peace with everyone.

"So let it be clearly known and understood by you, brethren, that through this Man forgiveness and removal of sins is now proclaimed to you" ( Acts 13:38).

As we celebrate the first coming of Jesus which was to redeem man, don't forget that there is a second coming where He will judge the world and will take those who belong to Him with to present them to His Father. Do you belong to Him and if you die today where will you spend eternity, heaven or hell? The choice is yours to make today. If a person dies today, Jesus has come for Him, if he comes for you today with the way you are living a sinful life, will you be ready for Him?

You can begin a relationship now with the lord Jesus Christ and experience His love for you by saying this prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ I acknowledge that I am a sinner, I believe in your death and resurrection. I ask you to forgive me my sins, I reject the devil and all his works and l welcome the Holy Spirit into my life. I declare today I am born again and I am a child of God in Jesus name. Amen.

If you just said that prayer I welcome you to God's family. Look for a Bible believing church where God's word is taught and fellowship there.
