Welcome to purposeful living today. It's a new month and we welcome you to a month full of sweetness and savoury. God is set to favour us always. Be blessed and stay blessed.

Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Colossians 3:18-20

The family is the foundational institution of society ordained by God. It is constituted by marriage and is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood or adoption.

God is the visioneer of every family. It is therefore important to return to God’s way and re-establish His order in our families if we are to fulfill his purpose. It does not matter what our culture, traditions, philosophy, society or even government say about the nucleus, the composition and organization of a family; we ought to obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29).

God desires and creates the family to be an extension of His love and care here on earth. He mirrors the family to be the reflection of His nature with the way it's members relate with each other in love and patience. The chain of submission in every family should be wife to her husband. He in turn submits to the Lord Jesus Christ who, in turn is in total submission to God (the Father). The children are to obey and honor their parents.

God’s order for the family are best preserved when there is no role conflict. And for this reason, the individuals that make up the family must abide by their specific roles for unity and the fulfillment of God's purpose.

I. The Role of a Husband (Ephesians 5:25-28)
The word husband comes from some Anglo-Saxon words meaning “house band.” He should therefore bind the home together in terms of its organization and control. He has to do this as:

A. Head of the family- Leadership connotes authority in bringing up children and in providing direction and guidance with responsibility in decision making. It also connotes helping to organize the life of family members through Planning (1 Corinthians. 11:3, Eph. 5:23).

B. Lover of his wife and children- This is done by giving of his best sacrificially, nourish and cherish, creating an atmosphere of love and acceptance, respect and honor (Col. 3:19, 1 Pet. 3:7, Eph. 5:25).

C. Protect and provide for the needs of the family (1 Tim. 5:8). He is to protect his wife from the strain of housework, psychological and emotional strains. He is also to provide physical needs, Spiritual needs of prayer, fellowship and the word of God. As the high priest of the family, its overall welfare is on his shoulders. He should serve in love “just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her” and not rule in fear. The one who called him into marriage has made every provision for him to succeed in leading his family (Prov. 18:22).

In the next post, we will discuss the roles of the wives and the children in the family.

We cannot however function effectively in our various roles either as a wife, husband or child without the help of the Holy Spirit. You cannot have this Precious Gift from God the Father to help you and to lead you do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

You can begin a relationship now with the Lord Jesus Christ by saying this prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ I acknowledge that I am a sinner, I believe in your death and resurrection. I ask you to forgive me my sins, I reject the devil and all his works and l welcome the Holy Spirit into my life. I declare today I am born again and I am a child of God in Jesus name .Amen .
If you just said that prayer I welcome you to God's family. Look for a Bible believing church where God's word is taught and fellowship there.
