WHY OPPOSITE ATTRACTS

Welcome to purposeful living today. It is our pleasure to serve you as we expose the hidden secret of God's will on earth to you. We are always glad to have you here. Do have a favour-filled day!

"So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man" Genesis 2: 21,22.

One of the most fundamental truths to grasp about relationships and marriage is that you are very likely to be attracted to someone who is opposite to you in temperament, nature, and disposition. This difference can either be a source of great frustration or great advantage, depending on how you view it.

From our key verse; in the beginning when God created Adam, He caused a deep sleep upon him. Why? So that Adam would not interfere in the creation of Eve. After God caused a deep sleep on Adam, it is written that while he slept, God took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which He had taken, He made into a woman and brought her to the man. Now, we know that the rib is a bone and it signifies strength. God took part of the strength of Adam in creating Eve, and after that, He closed it up with flesh. Flesh here signifies weakness, which means that the place God took a rib(strength) from Adam in order to create Eve, He closed that place up with flesh(weakness).

Men always get attracted to a woman who compliments them and vice versa. God created the union of a man and a woman in such a way that the man is to be weak were the woman is strong in order for them to compliment each other. As one of the rib(strength) of the man was taken in order to create Eve, so it is that Eve is strong were Adam is weak because the space were the rib was taken was covered with flesh. So in search of a lifetime partner, a man seeks a woman who is strong in the area he is weak and that is the reason why opposite attracts because it's just the way our Creator fashioned it to be.

Imagine both a man and a woman in a relationship as outgoing and jovial individuals, without an organizer. They both have audience on stage and want to be everywhere at all times. This will create a clash of interest as they are not complimenting themselves but rather, competiting amongst themselves. If we notice, a man who is always on the talking side needs a listening woman and not a woman that also wants to always air her view. This is because he wants someone to always pay attention to him. Or let's look at a scenario of a man who is indecisive, careless but has a leadership ability in him, he is prone to getting attracted to a woman who is decisive and organized even though she doesn't have that capacity to lead; this is because she will add flavour and balance to his strength and they will both compliment each other. This is the case of other temperaments and dispositions we can think of.

But one thing we must take note of is that we are not to remain weak in our areas of weakness. Our partner is there to lift us up in order that we excel where he/she is excelling. As time goes on, God expects that both parties are strengthened in their weaknesses by virtue of the spouse He has provided who is strong were you are weak and vice versa.

Even as God did not create man and woman with the same body type and other physical attributes, so also, He did not fashion marriage to be between a man and a woman with the same strength and same weakness. His will is for both party to compliment each other and work hand in hand as a team in building up each other, fulfilling His purpose for their lives both in marriage and generally, on earth.

This is one way we can identify our life partner when we weigh our strength with theirs and see that they thrive where we fail. Our attraction to the opposite sex is one way God leads us in choosing right. But we also need His wisdom in choosing His perfect will because there are many people out there of the opposite sex who have the same strengths in the areas we are weak.

You need the Wisdom of God to guide you on the right path in making this lifelong decision of a spouse; the Wisdom of God is Jesus Christ and if you are disconnected from Him who is your Source, having no relationship with Him, life will be nothing but one that is full of misery and this is not Gods plan or will for you.

You can begin a relationship now with the Lord Jesus Christ by saying this prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ I acknowledge that I am a sinner, I believe in your death and resurrection. I ask you to forgive me my sins, I reject the devil and all his works and l welcome the Holy Spirit into my life. I declare today I am born again and I am a child of God in Jesus name .Amen .
If you just said that prayer I welcome you to God's family. Look for a Bible believing church where God's word is taught and fellowship there.
