Welcome to purposeful living today. We welcome you into a new week. We thank God for His sustaining Grace, Love, and Mercy that continues to manifest in our lives. We also want to thank Him for giving us His wisdom to bring His life-changing message to His people. Today’s message is titled, “The Power of Choice.”

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.( Deuteronomy 30:19 )

Beloved, today’s message is to let us know the power of the choices we make as Christians. It is very interesting to note that one of the most amazing abilities we have is our power of choice and as soon as we decide to make a particular choice, I believe it will either have an on the spot or a long-term effect. Every choice you make has an end result. God honors His own word by giving you the power to choose. He honors your Godlike image in giving you the freedom to choose the steps of your calling.

Do you use your power of choice?

Imagine going into a restaurant and asking the server, "What am I having tonight?"

As ridiculous as that sounds, some of us go through life letting others make our choices for us. But from the time God created the first human beings, Adam and Eve, he gave mankind the power of choice. We call it free will.

Surprisingly, a large number of singles don't want to make their own choices. They're afraid of choosing the wrong thing. They want someone else to decide for them, but when you do that, you're not only limiting what you can receive, you're putting yourself in the position of a child, who's not responsible enough yet to make their own decisions

However, we shall be looking at the story of a notable minister in God's Vineyard, Pastor Gbile Akanni as he tells his story of how CHOICE alone had an adverse effect on his friend.

While in our youth days, after our graduation from the university, we were posted for service. Stanley, a vibrant Christian Brother and l reported at our service centre. Not long after our arrival, some people organised a welcome party for NYSC (Corpers), where we were both invited. Immediately, l said ‘’NO’’, we’re God’s children, we don’t attend worldly parties. They replied, ‘’you are S.U, you are old-school, you are swegbe’’. At this junction my friend Stanley couldn’t take a stand for the Lord. He made a choice. He said to me, Bro Gbile please let’s not do so, let’s attend, it’s just a party nothing more. But l insisted on my decision.
So, Stanley honoured their invitation. According to him, seated at the dancing hall, Stanley was offered a bottle of alcohol. He rejected it and demanded for a bottle of Malt. While he was drinking, a lady walked up to him and said, ‘’how can you a man be drinking malt? Even me, a girl could finish a bottle of Gulder’’ Stanley became ashamed. For the first time in his life, he requested for a glass of alcohol. To shorten the long tragic story, just a glass of beer took Stanley away from Christ. Every effort l made to restore him to the faith was to no avail.
Many years later, l saw him, hardly could l recognise him. He was so haggard and battered. His life was a mirage. His marriage ruined, and destiny shattered. Then he looked at my face and said, ‘’Bro Gbile l envy you. What you are now is what l could have been, but look at where l am today. I wish l could reverse the choice l made’’ Then he stood weeping profusely. Though l prayed and restored him to Christ, but the lost ground and the wasted years he never recovered. Not too long he died.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.( Galatians 6:7 )

As we mature in the Lord and learn more about how scripture affects our lifestyle, I believe that we ought to make choices that work with our new growth in Christ. The Scripture has a way of shaping us into who God wants us to be and not what we want to be. As Christians, we mature as we grow in the Word and as we mature so do our choices in life. Some of these choices may be very little and we won’t even realize the change, but other choices will be major and will make a total transformation in our lives and the way we live, hopefully for the better.

Beloved, you must however understand that God allows us to make our own choices and take our own decisions in this life. We can choose to follow Him and His wisdom-filled ways or we can choose to follow our own understanding of what we think is wisdom or proper lifestyle. On our supposed journey, some of us will realise that our ways are not encouraging to be called a faithful and righteous Christian. Some of us won’t even see it at all unless we surrender our all to God. We must see the lifestyle God wants us to live so that we can continue to grow in grace and mature in the Word, or we will see ourselves living our lives anyhow to satisfy our sinful desires.

Dearly loved, don’t forget that we exist for a purpose. God created us with the potential to one day be a part of His eternal Kingdom. Learning to make wise decisions based on God’s instructions is one of the primary lessons everyone needs to learn and that’s why the bible must be your friend. When you read Proverbs 3:5 , God tells us not to rely on our “own understanding.” Probably you are thinking you are doing the right thing or you are making the right choices but God is again telling you and I in Proverbs 14:12 that, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

Many people ask questions as to how can they learn to make wise decisions? I personally believe that the key to making the right choices and taking right decisions is to seek after Godly wisdom. Beloved, seek for this wisdom because making the right choices is much easier when we seek wisdom. When we read Proverbs 4:7 , the Bible says that, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom.” Wisdom is an important thing because it enables us to live our lives well to the glory of God because we will always be taking the right steps along the way with His Spirit leading us. The Bible says in James 1:5 that, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

Beloved, I want to charge you today to ask God for wisdom if you are seeking answers concerning an issue, if there is a particular step you have to take, and if there is any choice you have to make. Whatever it is that you need to do today, I just want you to come to the realization of the fact that there is great news for you and it is that you can choose to follow God’s choices for your life. You can choose to put your trust and faith in God and let Him lead the way. It may be that you think His choices for you are not the right ones, but know that they are what is needed in your life at the time of your situation because God loves you and He will always know what is best for you at all times and in all things. If you doubt God or you doubt His leading it simply means you have already decided to be against Him. Allow Him to lead you…

The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. ( Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 )

Beloved, though your destiny is precious and very bright, but it is contested. The ground the devil wins in your life today is where he will pitch his tent tomorrow. Now l see Jesus the mighty warrior, with all his power and might ready to save you, but it seems the enemy is saying, you are old enough to choose for yourself. The choice to win or lose is yours. In order to be victorious in the battle for the young, you must accept Jesus into your heart NOW THAT YOU ARE YOUNG.

You can begin a relationship now with the Lord Jesus Christ by saying this prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ I acknowledge that I am a sinner, I believe in your death and resurrection. I ask you to forgive me my sins, I reject the devil and all his works and l welcome the Holy Spirit into my life. I declare today I am born again and I am a child of God in Jesus name .Amen .
If you just said that prayer I welcome you to God's family. Look for a Bible believing church where God's word is taught and fellowship there.
