Welcome to purposeful living today. We are always here to share with you life's principles, inspire you to live to the fullest of who your Creator created you to be as you build Godly relationships, have healthy marriages and enjoy your life's experiences. Today, we shall be looking at one of life's issues which is self control. Many have missed it in life because of this simple, yet powerful means of being all you have been created to be. No wonder "self-control" is mentioned in the Bible as one of the fruits of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:23). We shall however continue from were we stopped in Part 1 as we move forward to how self control can be built and developed. Have an amazing weekend!

He who guards his mouth and his tongue, Guards his soul from troubles. – Proverbs 21 :23

As human beings, we all have the virtue of self control in us. It is how much we discipline and subject ourselves to its power that makes it effective in our daily lives. As Christians and children of God, the Bible admonishes us to walk in self control as it is one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:23) while we are also told in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God has not given us the Spirit of fear but of love, power and self control. From the look of things, we understand that self control is vital in our achieving success in life as well as living a purposeful fulfilled life on earth. Have you ever asked yourself what and what can be done in order for you to walk and develop the virtue of self control? Here are a few suggestions.

1) First things first. Self control is a virtue that can be nurtured. It is impossible for us to exhibit the fruits that come with walking in the Spirit without the help of the Holy Spirit. So therefore, if we really want to walk in self control, we must ask the Spirit of God; the Holy Spirit to help us. He is our Sure Helper at all times.

2) You need to identify in what areas of your life you need to gain more self- control . Where do you find yourself lacking in self- control ?
Possible areas could be:
-Eating junk food or overeating
-Addiction to shopping
-Drinking too much alcohol
-Spending too many hours working and leaving no time for anything else
-Addiction to gambling
-Obsessive behavior
-Being quick to get angry

3) Try identifying the emotions that lack control, such as anger, dissatisfaction , unhappiness, resentment or fear
4) Identify the thoughts and beliefs that push you to behave in an uncontrolled manner.

5) After identifying all the above issues , devote a few minutes every day for thinking about the consequences of this behavior and how your life would be different without them .

6) Several times a day, especially when you need to display self control , repeat for a minute or two one of the following affirmations:
1 . I am fully in control of myself.
2 . I have the power to choose my emotions and thoughts.
3 . Self-control brings me inner strength and leads me to success.
4 . I am in control of my reactions.
5 . I am in charge of my behavior.
6 . I am gaining control of my emotions.>
7 . I am the master of my life.
8 . Day by day my ability to control my feelings and thoughts is increasing.
9 . Self-control is fun and pleasure.

7) Visualize yourself acting with self-control and self-restraint. Take one of the instances where you usually act with lack of control, and visualize that you are acting calmly and with self-mastery.

8) Your self control will improve considerably , if you work on developing and increasing your willpower and self- discipline through appropriate exercises. This is actually the most important step for developing self control.

By developing and strengthening your willpower and self discipline, you develop and improve your self control. My friend, I challenge you this day to hold on to this knowledge of self control that you have been enlightened on this day. It could be God's way of preparing you for something great. God wants the best for us always and that is why whatever He allows in our lives is for a purpose. If you are not acquainted with your Creator, you will not be able to live a self controlled life and enjoy the power that comes with it. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God's plans for us are plans of good, and not of evil. If you have not made Jesus Christ who loves you dearly as your Lord and personal saviour, why not say this prayer below :

Lord Jesus Christ I acknowledge that I am a sinner, I believe in your death and resurrection. I ask you to forgive me my sins, I reject the devil and all his works and l welcome the Holy Spirit into my life. I declare today I am born again and I am a child of God in Jesus name .Amen . If you just said that prayer I welcome you to God's family. Look for a Bible believing church where God's word is taught and fellowship there.
