Welcome to purposeful living today.
Dear friend, know that life is all about living for a purpose when you are not, then you are just existing ... God never made a mistake in creating you. He made you for a Purpose ( Jeremiah 29: 11).

"A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones" (Proverbs 17:22).

The song "It Is Well With My Soul" was written by a successful Christian lawyer. He had two girls and a wife and the family planned a summer trip to go overseas. Since he had a lot of work to do, he sent his family and decided to follow them later. He heard the news while on the following ship that another ship had capsized and he knew that his family was there since they mentioned the name of the ship. On His return home, his Law firm was burned down and the insurance company refused to pay, they said "It's An Act Of God". He had no money to pay for his house and no work, he also lost his house. Then while sitting and thinking what's happening to him, being a spiritual person, he wrote a song - whatever my Lord, you have taught me to say - It is well, it is well with my soul.

The word "Act" in this context simply means a display of behaviour; while to be cheerful means happy, joyous, glad, excited, optimistic and whatever attitude you can imagine that is positive. The Bible admonishes us to "Rejoice always" (1Thess 5:16).

God is also saying to us that we should be cheerful always. Now to be cheerful always does not necessarily have to depend on our circumstances. If we must base our mood on whatever happens to us at any point in time, then we are making situations to be in control over our lives. Here is what Jesus says to us in John 16:33 .... "In the world, you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world".
Now, when we base our attitude of being cheerful always on what Jesus has said to us in this scripture as well as on His finished work for us on the cross of Calvary, we will be left with no choice other than to always exude Joy and happiness. Jesus says that in the world we have tribulations. These tribulations include bad circumstances, criticisms from people, rejection, persecution, back stabbing, slander even from those we claim as friends; and these things really hurt. When we choose to let them determine our attitude, we simply cannot always be cheerful and Happy. But Jesus went further to say that we should be of good cheer. This is His command for His children. We wants us to always be cheerful because He knows that the act of cheerfulness produces great result of peace and comfort in our lives amidst the situation we find ourselves.

"Cheerfulness and contentment are great beautifiers, and are fatuous preservers of youthful looks"

Also, we are told in Proverbs 17:22 that a cheerful heart is a good medicine but a downcast spirit dries up the bones. We do ourselves good when we choose to be cheerful. If we bury our mood always on the bad circumstances we go through; making our spirit downcast, we automatically dry up our bones unintentionally. But when we are cheerful amidst all these, we automatically give ourselves good treatment unintentionally. Apart from this scenerio, a cheerful heart increases one's life span making a person look more graceful, younger, beautiful while a gloomy appearance which is a result of a downcast spirit shortens one's life and makes a person grow old quickly because his spirit is downcast. We can see here that whatever we let into our heart goes a long way to determine our life's outcome.

"The path to cheerfulness is to sit cheerfully and to act and speak as if cheerfulness were already there."

Let us always learn to act and speak cheerfulness; even when our predicaments do not look it. If we are cheerful, hopeful, and expectant, the universe and our situation that surrounds us responds in proportion to the attitude we display. Remember your attitude and not your aptitude determines your altitude in life. When we are cheerful, forgetting whatever challenge we encounter, it has a way of disappearing and leaving us; and also working together for our good. Cheerfulness also lighten up our environment and those around us. Even in our state of sadness, when we choose to be cheerful, we minister to those around us in the spirit of cheerfulness because it is a contagious attitude. The act of cheerfulness gives life to dead situations and hope to the downtrodden around us.

My dear friend, the act of cheerfulness is a good attitude to whatever circumstances we find ourselves in life. When you look at your life, education, career, job or family life, what do you say? Do you praise God? Do you blame the devil? A good attitude towards God and life makes Him move on your behalf.

The story of the successful Christian lawyer above is a case in sight. Despite his predicament, he proclaimed that it is well with his soul. He didn't wallow in depression but had a cheerful attitude towards life. He didn't consider what others had and judged himself based on their circumstance. He knew that a man's life does not consist in the abundance of His possession. (Luke 12:15). Stay blessed and don't be envious or shocked when others are prospering because you don't know what they have been through to get there (test, trials and tribulation). When we have a positive attitude towards life, it responds to us with the attitude we display. Prosperity in life is the result of having a cheerful attitude because a cheerful person does not give up and successful people are not those who have not experienced failure in life , but are those who amidst their failures never gave up.  "Little is much when God is in it".

Have a great day; God bless you! But before I end my note here, this goes out to anyone who has not the conviction in his heart that Jesus Christ is Lord of his life. I'd like you to say this prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for loving me just as I am . I recognize the sinner that I am , this is why I come before you to cleanse me with your blood and send your Spirit into my life to empower me to live for you. I declare today that I am born again and proudly a child of God.

. If you do not have Jesus, you cannot always be cheerful and live a fulfilled and purposeful life on earth. His Presence in your life is what makes the difference.
