13 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT EVANGELIST BILLY GRAHAM

Welcome to purposeful living today. I believe you have had an amazing week.
"When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost". Billy Graham.

13 THINGS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT EVANGELIST BILLY GRAHAM

Evangelist William Franklin Graham, Jr. was born on November 7 , 1918, in Charlotte , North Carolina, to his parents William and Morrow Graham. Billy Graham was the first of four children raised on the family' s dairy farm in Charlotte. In hindsight there was little indication that Graham would one day be a preacher of the gospel to as many as 215 million people in live audiences over 185 countries . Graham has been credited with preaching to more individuals than anyone else in history, not counting the additional millions he has addressed through radio, television and the written word.
Rev. Billy Graham's prolific writings and widely broadcast sermons reached hundreds of millions of people worldwide. In honor of the legendary evangelist's life, here's a list of things you may not have known about the Southern Baptist minister.

1. Graham was the son of a dairy farmer in North Carolina. He grew up dreaming of becoming a professional baseball player but said of himself, "The talent for baseball obviously was not there."

Note: It is not where you where born that matters but what you do with where you where born to bring out the greatness in you. Your back ground does not mean that your back should be on the ground but should take you to higher grounds.

2. At the age of 15, Graham made a personal commitment to Christ at a tent revival meeting featuring traveling evangelist Mordecai Ham.
Note: The beginning of a great future starts with surrendering to the lord Jesus Christ and inviting Him into your life. A life without Christ is full of crisis.
3. Graham held his first citywide crusade in 1947 in Grand Rapids, Mich. The mass meetings attracted thousands of people in one venue to hear Graham speak. In all, Graham held more than
400 crusades in 185 countries and territories across six continents — reaching 215 million people, according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Note: Don't despise the days of small beginnings. It is true you have a global vision, start locals but don't stay local see and think global.

4. Graham received an offer to host a nationwide Christian radio program in 1949 but said he would only do it if he could raise $25,000 in one night to start the process of buying air time. At a crusade in Portland, Ore., the funds came in and the radio program "Hour of Decision" got its start. The program is now aired on hundreds of radio stations, featuring messages from Graham and his son, Franklin.

Note: When you live fulfilling purpose all the resources you need will be provided for you. Purpose brings provision. Stay on Purpose and don't do what others are doing because it is in vogue. Do it because that is what God has called you to do.

"Some day you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don't you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God."

5. In the summer of 1957, Graham preached nightly for 16 consecutive weeks in New York's Madison Square Garden to a packed audience. He shared the lessons of Sodom and Gomorrah from the Bible, substituting "New York" for the names of the cities of sin, The New York Times reported.

Note: Stay focused and consistent on fulfilling your dreams. Don't do things to please people but to please God who has called you into His service.

6. Graham was the author of 33 books, including his 1997 best-selling autobiography, Just As I Am .

Note: God has Blessed you with talents and gifts. What are you doing with them? Are you using them for God's glory?
What do you want the world to remember you for?

7. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association started the TV Telephone Ministry in 1981, for people to call in while watching the "Billy Graham Classics" programs on TV and talk to trained volunteers about topics including "drug abuse, depression, and God's will." According to Graham's association, there are 41 active phone centers with 530 phones and more than 2,000 trained volunteers.

Note: Don't be traditional but be transitional. Think how to improve and make things better. Think how to make more impact in the lives of people. Think kingdom advancement.

8. Graham's role as a counselor to American presidents is widely known. But perhaps most extraordinary is just how many presidents he advised. Graham met with 12 consecutive occupants of the Oval Office starting with Harry Truman and ending with Barack Obama.

Note: Stop going to kings to gain their favour, that is not what God said in His word. He said your gifts will make you stand before kings and not mere men. Focus on God and He will bring you before kings.

9. Graham helped George W. Bush stop drinking. The first time the pair met, Bush, who was much younger at the time, was drunk after having several beers and glasses of wine, he told CNN. His father, George H.W. Bush, invited the preacher to the family's compound in Maine. The pair spoke about religion, which helped start a turning point in Bush's life.

Note: There should be a positive transformation in the lives of those you associate with, making them better.

"My home is in Heaven. I'm just traveling through this world." Billy Graham

10. While at Wheaton College, Graham met future wife Ruth, the daughter of missionaries in China. They were married in 1943, until her death in 2007. After her death at the age of 87, Graham said, "When it comes to spiritual things, my wife has had the greatest influence on my ministry — she was the greatest Christian I ever knew."

Note: Your choice of a life partner is your next important choice after your choice of following Jesus. Your success in life and eternity can be determined by who you marry. They can help you or frustrate you. Choose with the leading of the Holy Spirit and choose wisely.

11. To eliminate even the suspicion of infidelity, Graham vowed never to meet, travel or eat alone with any woman other than his wife.

Note: What are your standards and boundaries? Don't live without principles guiding your life.

12. During the Civil Rights era, Graham integrated his revival meetings, inviting both blacks and whites to attend. He said, "Christianity is not a white man's religion, and don't let anybody ever tell you that it's white or black. Christ belongs to all people. He belongs to the whole world."

Note: Don't discriminate people, stop the discrimination. We are all one in Christ Jesus no matter our race we are in His race, we belong to one spiritual family. Let us walk and live in unity.

13. Graham was consistently listed on Gallup's poll of the "10 Most Admired Men in the World." Although he's never been No. 1, Graham has made the list 61 times since 1955 and he also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989.

Note: One of the things people crave for is to be famous, this is why some persons decide to use their talents against God's will for them because they believe that they can't be famous and Blessed by God doing what He has called them to do, but never forget this:
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
(Matthew 6:33 KJV)

"Do I fear death? No. I look forward to death with great anticipation. I am looking forward to seeing God face to face. And that could happen any day."

When you seek God all you need will run after you. God's General Rev Billy Graham has come, saw and conquered. What about you? What will be said about you if you die now? What are you living for?
God can make you famous, prosper you, bring kings to your beck and call, can make you very influential by you preaching the gospel and seeking Him above all things. If He did it for Rev Billy Graham who died on Tuesday 21st February 2018 at 99 years old, He can do same for you if only you surrender to Him today. He is capable of making a message out of the mess in your life.

You can begin a relationship now with the lord Jesus Christ and experience His love for you by saying this prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ  I acknowledge that I am a sinner,  I believe in your death and resurrection.  I ask you forgive me my sins,  I reject the devil and all his works and l welcome the Holy Spirit into my life.  I declare today I am born again and I am a child of God in Jesus name .Amen .

If you just said that prayer I welcome you to God's family. Look for a Bible believing church where God's word is taught and fellowship there.
