You are welcome to purposeful living. Yesterday we talked about depression and its cause; today we will be looking at how to deal with this deadly killer and stealer of joy called depression. Talking with people will make you understanding that there are things that our simile hides, it is killing us on the inside and crying out for expression which we find it difficult to tell others, reason being that we find it difficult to trust people who may make matters worse or we don’t want to tell anyone and believe we can handle it all by ourselves.         This brings me to the how we can handle depression:
1.       Face the challenge: You can only win in the race when you jump the hurdles on your way as an athlete, if you run from it you will be disqualified.  We must first admit that we have a challenge instead of denying it, tell yourself the truth. Now you know that you are going through a challenge that borders you, don’t run from it, it is said he that runs from a fight, will have to fight it another day. You face the challenge by knowing and meditating on what God is saying to you through His word. Is it in your health for example, you are always sick. You hold on to God God’s word on health. For example he said in his word in Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed”. You allow this to be your focus, meditate on this not the sickness.
2.       Share the Burden: Sharing our challenge gives us relief and proffers solution to the situation. Look for a trusted friend, Counselor, Parent, Pastor or any matured Christian who you know can help you. There are so many people who have gone through what you are presently going through, so you need to tap from their wisdom. You can’t be wise and at the same time foolish in your own eyes. Have you ever asked why God did not leave the world with only Adam that he created Eve? It is because of the power in relationships. No man is  self-made, any self-made man is a self-destroyed man says Bishop Oyedepo. You are not an Ireland, so talk to people. Above all talk to God in prayers, see what Jesus said to us in Matt 11:28-29 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls”. The inability of people coming out of their shell to share what they are going through is the root cause of suicide… to be contd. Please share your views, questions on this topic and do share this with your friends.Thanks. #klapl.
